Warpfan If you like mid-90s Warp/Skam records electronic wizardry, you will love this album. Neil Scrivin is a cassette-tape splicing genius, and has created an album of interplanetary electronic funk - with liquid drum and bass as a distant cousin. Tracks #1, #2, #5, and #8 are brighter tunes, while the rest are moodier soundtracks. To dive right onto the dancefloor, go to 2:30 in Cassential and let it ride. (Then go buy PG's first album, Chrome Position, which throws some BoC into the mix). Favorite track: Cassential.

cults and hiking trails Neil is nestling into his own sound away from VHS Head(He was coproduction of) and it sounds lovely. Nice sultry grooves that float among the branches of Vaporwave, Cut up Electro breaks, 80s/90s R&B dissection, BOC hiphop and the aforementioned sound. Delectable slow funk with chunky bits. Molasses funk. Favorite track: Hear Me Read My Genetic Chirpy Chip.

about

Phono Ghosts returns with ‘Photons in Fashion’ featuring eight new tracks of intricately spliced tape samples, continuing the psychedelic eclectic sound that marked out his previous releases on Fonolith (Solar Dream Reel) and Skam (Chrome Position).

Over 30 minutes, ‘Photons in Fashion’ careers between the forceful ‘80s digi-funk blast of ‘Cassential’, space-lounge groove of ‘Binary Dynamics’ and hypnotic disco of the title track; progressing through to the brooding ‘Dramakai’ and slinky fretless bass of ‘Observatory of the Soul’, interspersed with dream-like fragmentary interludes, before closing out with the idiosyncratic synth bleeping of ‘Hear Me Read My Genetic Chirpy Chip’.

"Phono Ghosts dials in eight freshly chopped, screwed, cut and pasted IDiscoM and slowed down digi-funk cuts on his choice new 30-minute session Photons in Fashion.

Beamed live and direct to both hyper-ltd wax cylinder and plastic CS cartridge, this latest dispatch from the shores of Blackpool finds all manner of distorted disco and smashed soul samples that have been stuck back together with digital sellotape and glue in the Fonolith musical tool shed. Diving deeper into the sample craving crates than most in this scene, Phono Ghosts once again manages to craft a from-start-to-finish session of properly funked up electronic explorations. Interlinked with dream-like interludes, the verdict is a proper road trip that journeys through similar styles to recent Mordant Music before turning up fully floating at the outermost reaching Unknown To The Unknown rave. If you dig that recent Cremation Lily LP on Alter, imagine its seafront location upended to acid house Blackpool and you may stumble across some of the solid gold supplements being sown by this sometime Skam'er." "With every move Phono Ghosts makes, the funkiness gets upped and twisted, his cut and paste aesthetic becoming an integral part of the groove. Indeed ‘Binary Dynamics’ is leisurely dance for the cool kids, while the title track is wonderfully beat driven to the point of collapsing in on itself. Very assured." Ian Abraham - Electronic Sound
